October Interview: Textile Fetish!
Here's a ten-minute interview with Textile Fetish! Visit her site, damnit! A portion of this interview appeared in the October Sampler Booklet. who are you and why?
what? that sounds kinda deep
yup and we've only got ten minutes!
I am woman! I am Jennifer of Textile Fetish, also mom of two little girlies, or some would call them grrls and they are really the reason I am doing the online business thing.
how much of who you are depends upon your making stuff?
Oh sheesh. I absolutely have to be creating. If I go for a few days without making something, I start to question my purpose.
do you think this is a trait you've passed on to your daughters?
I hope so. Well, one of them is still tiny. The other gets high marks in preschool for her desire to build something elaborate from anything put in front of her.
why do you think so many young ladies these days are out there making things for themselves?
I have so many ways to answer that question. For some reason the most prominent answer in my mind comes from a Race Relations class I took once. The Japanese culture, for example...Those who have come to the States as immigrants will honor their culture, whereas their children will rebel and try to disassociate themselves from that culture. So THEN the next generation looks to the grandparents, trying to gain inspiration and integrate that into their Americanized selves. SO that's how I see this movement. In a similar light. Look at feminism. Our grandmothers seemed to accept their place in society as makers of the home and they worked with what they had. Scrap fabrics and old clothes became quilts. Newspapers published quilt patterns. So then our moms, many of them, rejected that. Now here we are saying, "Hey! My grandma rocked. She created for her family and for herself and in doing that she was self sufficient."
well...we have one minute left! tom or jerry?
I hate em both. ok, um jerry. The trickster.
ketchup, mustard or both?
mayo, but mustard if it is not available
that mayo answer took me by surprise, touché! dog or cat?
dog for sure! Cats, you know, like to do their own thing.
correct! carbs?
that is such a joke to me. I hope it is a fad that passes quickly.
thanks for participating in my little interview. did you have a fun time?
it was fun
sweet!

Interviews with Sampler Contributors and Sampler Friends! They're all kinds of fun and sometimes
they're even informative. Did I mention there's often haiku involved?
